Founding spirit

Honbo Sake Brewery has been around for over 100 years since its founding in 1872, and continues to carry on the ideas of its predecessors.

Honbo Matsuzaemon started his business inheriting his father Goemon's spirit of ``social service by promoting industry and industry'' from the time of turmoil shortly after the name changed to the Meiji era.

In the latter half of the Meiji period, the company began producing shochu using sweet potatoes, a specialty of Satsuma.
