Maizuru City, a city with remnants of a former military port
Maizuru City is located in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture. This town has a history of flourishing as a military port, where the Maizuru Naval Base (military base for the navy) was established more than 100 years ago. Currently, there is a base of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, and many ships and personnel such as escort ships and missile boats still protect Japan's seas. There are remnants of the naval era, including the harbor where warships were anchored, the red brick warehouse that was used as an arsenal at the time, and the residence of Heihachiro Togo, a hero of the Battle of the Sea of Japan, all preserved in almost their original state. It is popular among citizens and tourists as a cityscape and tourist spot.
Friday is curry day
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force serves curry on certain days so that they don't forget the days of the week even when they are at sea. That day was Friday (used to be Saturday), and it seems that ``Friday is curry day'' has become established. In Maizuru City, where the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force is located, there are many restaurants that are focusing on curry to make curry related to the Navy more popular, and restaurants that follow the example of the Japan Self-Defense Force and offer curry and curry-related menus every Friday. The street has become lined with banners and posters saying ``Friday is Curry Day.''
