Louis Roederer owns many of its own fields, which is unusual for major maisons. While many maisons use grapes purchased from contracted farmers, the company boasts the highest proportion of its own grapes among grand maisons. This "Roederer Estate" was established by Roederer with the ambition to make wine with 100% grapes grown in his own fields. In 1981, former president Jean-Claude Rouzaud, who spent two years looking for land, finally arrived at the ideal terroir - Anderson Valley, and acquired 580 acres of vineyards. Today, Quartet Anderson Valley Brut is the only California sparkling wine made with 100% grapes grown in-house.
Only the most squeezed fruit juice is used.
The aroma is rich with tropical fruits and nuts, and the taste is rich and complex, reminiscent of Champagne with a high proportion of Pinot Noir.
